Staying active and eating a nutritious diet can help you maintain your ideal body weight, but a healthy lifestyle doesn’t always take care of persistent fat. If you have troublesome bulges along your chin, midsection, upper thighs, or upper back that won’t disappear, the cosmetic experts at SINY® Dermatology can help. They offer CoolSculpting® body contouring, a noninvasive fat removal treatment that helps you create the physique you’ve always wanted. We provide the full spectrum of medical, cosmetic, and laser dermatology at all six of our offices in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Park Slope, Brooklyn, the West Village, and the Upper East Side in Manhattan, Forest Hills, Queens, and Southold on Long Island.
CoolSculpting® Q & A
How does CoolSculpting work?
CoolSculpting® is a noninvasive body-contouring treatment that uses advanced controlled cooling technology to target, freeze, and permanently eliminate the fat cells that make up unwanted areas of diet- and exercise-resistant fat.
This safe and highly effective FDA-cleared system lowers the temperature of the fat cells beneath the surface of your skin without affecting your skin tissues or other nearby structures.
As the targeted fat cells slowly begin to crystallize, they become less stable and no longer function properly. When your body recognizes the damaged fat cells are beyond repair, your lymphatic system gradually — and permanently — flushes them away.
Is CoolSculpting right for me?
CoolSculpting is designed to help reduce or eliminate the most common areas of persistent fat, including your midsection, upper back, armpit region, upper thighs, and beneath your chin.
If you’re at a relatively healthy body weight but you’re not satisfied with your body shape, CoolSculpting helps you reduce, sculpt, or get rid of minor unwanted bulges without having to undergo surgical liposuction or another type of invasive fat-reduction procedure.
Although CoolSculpting won’t help you shed excess pounds or reach your goal weight, it can help you get rid of those bothersome areas of pinchable fat that tend to stick around no matter how active you are or how well you eat.
What is CoolSculpting like?
CoolSculpting uses a specialized handpiece with a flat cooling panel that gently adheres to the treatment area when the system is activated.
As the procedure begins, you may experience mild sensations of pulling, tugging, or tingling accompanied by intense cold. These sensations typically subside as the targeted fat cells begin to freeze.
Many people read, watch videos, work, or even nap during their short CoolSculpting session. Once the fat crystallization process is complete, a short massage helps break up the treated cells and relieve any residual tingling you may experience.
As a gentle and completely noninvasive treatment, CoolSculpting doesn’t require any downtime. You can resume your normal routine immediately after your session.
When can I expect to see results?
While you may see noticeable slimming or shaping in the treated area within two or three weeks of your CoolSculpting treatment, you can expect your most dramatic results to emerge about two months after the procedure.
By two months post-treatment, your body has had enough time to identify, process, and permanently eliminate the damaged fat cells. Your results may continue to improve for up to six months following treatment as your body continues to flush the targeted cells.
*Individual results may vary.
