Cosmetic Fillers Fill an Important Need!

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is fairest of them all? That question has been on our minds for centuries, long before the evil queen in the story of "Snow White" asked it of the magic mirror. And who could bame her? As we age, most of us want to feel confident in our attractiveness since for better or worse, nearly 69% of the time first impressions are made on the basis of appearance alone.

Even before we speak, we are likely to have been judged simply by our facial features and posture. Fortunately, decades ago science and medicine came to understand that aging is a physical and psychological rite of passage and the subspecialty of dermatologic cosmetic medicine was born.

It is one of the most popular and least invasive means of improving our appearance and gaining the self-esteem that comes with knowing we look our best.

Dermatologic fillers (also known as cosmetic or dermal fillers) have been used since the 1980s and are well-established as a safe, non-surgical means of restoring the natural look of our youthful features. They can correct many of the common flaws that otherwise signal aging on the face, back of the hands, neck, and chest.

For example, fillers such as Restylane, Juvaderm, and Voluma can restore a youthful appearance in a number of ways such as improving and enhancing natural features, lightening or erasing the appearance of dark "age spots," reducing or erasing the appearance of lines, wrinkles, creases, and under-eye "bags," filling in sunken places and plumping thinning places, and even altering the shape of the face.

And cosmetic fillers aren't just for ladies. Men use them almost as often as women to smooth lines and wrinkles, plump lips, reduce the appearance of under-eye "bags," and create the square jawline considered to be the most attractive look for a man's face. It's no accident that nearly every male mannequin in every store window has a strong, square jawline, as do the majority of male models walking the runway.

In comparison to a traditional facelift, considered a major surgical procedure with the potential for extended recovery and the possibility of serious complications, both men and women trust SINY dermatologists to provide an almost instant result with an almost pain-free treatment that requires no downtime. Using fillers like Restylane, Juvaderm, and Voluma, our SINY dermatologists are enormously effective in reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles above and below the eyes including the unsightly "eleven lines" between the brows, and "crow's feet" lines that appear at the corner of the eyes.

We can smooth the deep creases in the forehead, create the illusion of youthful cheekbones, fill in the hollows beneath the eyes and on temples, restore volume to the chin area, smooth wrinkles on the decolletage area, improve the appearance of the deep folds that stretch from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth (sometimes called "puppet" or "parenthesis" lines), and create or restore symmetry to the face.

We can replace volume to the thinning skin of our hands, and reduce the appearance of the brown spots that so often dot the backs of aging hands. The deep frown and pucker lines that disrupt the skin around the mouth respond beautifully to fillers, and they are exquisitely effective in lightening the look of unsightly acne scars.

In the hands of our expert, Board-certified SINY dermatologists, your cosmetic needs will be addressed with a customized treatment plan designed to fit your specific needs, your schedule, and your lifestyle.

It is important to know that injecting cosmetic fillers requires an exacting technique that comes with knowledge and experience. We are proud to say that our SINY dermatologists are also on staff at two of the most well-respected "Best Hospitals in New York,"  the prestigious New York University-Langone Medical Center and the distinguished, award-winning Mount Sinai Medical Center. You can be confident that SINY dermatologists know and teach the most sophisticated, safest, and most effective cosmetic medicine techniques and have the education and experience to make your treatment very nearly pain-free. In fact, many patients say they are surprised after treatment to have had little or no discomfort.

Juvaderm, Restalyn, and Voluma are among the most popular cosmetic fillers and while each is exquisitely suited to a particular purpose, each one is an excellent choice in its own right.

Your SINY dermatologist will suggest the best product for your needs. Results will be apparent almost immediately after treatment, but because fillers work naturally with your body, it may take a few days to a week or so before the final result is apparent. We may advise you to ice the treated area gently for 10 minutes three times a day, and it is important that you do not rub, press, push, or scrub the treated area for a week after treatment.

Side effects, if they occur at all, are generally mild and typically resolve quickly and without intervention. These can include temporary bruising, tenderness, itching, or swelling at the injection site. Small lumps/bumps may occur after injection as the filler settles into the skin. These are generally temporary and typically resolve without intervention. In the unlikely event that you are unhappy with your new look, fillers can be removed with a quick secondary procedure.

It is important to note that for 6 weeks following treatment, regardless of the area, you should not schedule elective diagnostic or therapeutic procedures that will or may puncture the skin anywhere on your body. This includes dental work, any injections, and diagnostic/therapeutic tests that may include needling or injecting a substance.
